The International School Health Network is calling for contributors, reviewers and sponsors to engage in a knowledge and information exchange process on school-based and school-linked substance abuse prevention (SAP). This process will develop a series of webinars, wiki-based, online discussion of Wikipedia style summaries in the form of a set of Glossary Terms, a shared online SAP bibliography/toolbox, shared SAP Twitter account posting news/research/resource clippings and a shared SAP blog analyzing trends and identifying emerging issues.
To join this International Discussion Group, simply add your name to this List of Participants and select the webinars that interest you. We use the term "shared" to denote the fact that many organizations can contribute to and benefit from these web tools, all of which can be posted simultaneously and updated automatically in several web sites, through the use of widgets. For example, if you want to embed the blog/twitter feed displayed on the right hand side of this page, simply click on the "Get Widget" button at the bottom of the display and you will be able to copy and paste that bit of code into your web site. These web tools will support an International Discussion Group that is defining, describing and discussion several topics relating to school-based and school-linked substance abuse prevention that are listed below. In addition to the agenda/list of topics and series of webinars/web meetings and other web tools noted above, this International Discussion Group is currently engaged in two other activities; the construction of a Glossary of Terms related to school Substance Abuse Prevention (SAP) and a monthly report listing of the latest research, news and resources identified by ISHN and its partners. (Thanks to the Drug Strategy Contributions Fund of Health Canada for their support in publishing these two resources as part of an national project in that country). Like the other resources, this Glossary and Monthly report is also available as a widget for posting on multiple web sites in the non-branded, simple text format that you see below. An Agenda Topics in School Substance Abuse Prevention The topics listed in the chart below are those that are relevant to substance abuse prevention through schools (This list is also open for amendment). The items on this list with active links are already prepared in their "first draft" or "rough draft" versions. Individuals and organizations interested in becoming a writer, contributor or sponsor for any one or more of these topics should contact [email protected] The deadline for responding to this call is open, because the list of topics is also open for discussion and amendment. As with other topics in this program and in this web site, it is expected that each topic will eventually, over the course of several months, have a Glossary term (1-2 paragraphs), an Encyclopedia Entry (1-2 pages), a Handbook Section (10-15 pages with sub pages for case studies and a Bibliography or Toolbox that lists web-linked research articles, reports and resources such as educational programs, training tools and policy documents. The summaries on topics could eventually form part of an e-book on School Substance Abuse Prevention that will be prepared from materials in this knowledge exchange program. |
